Situated on the edge of the Design District of San Francisco, the project creates a culturally and socially rich, healthy, and
productive work and live environment that could revitalize the post-pandemic urbanity. It acknowledges that elevations,
including the fifth elevation, should manifest a conscious approach to the environmental context of the building. The
formal syntax study informs the facided roof design and the central courtyard that channels natural light to the north part
of the building complex. The plans are results of the projection of the fi fth elevation. Sharp angles created thick poché
that became service cores and structural elements; the overlapping system of lines was translated into layered programs
that bleeded into each other.
Elevations reveal depth in plan and section through folding and intersection. Vertical cladding and louvre systems register
with each other, creating diff erent levels of density that furthers the reading of elevational depth, which is manifested in
sections through shadows and the amounnt of natural light the interior surfaces catch. The skin thus becomes a device of
passive deisgn that controls light and ventilation.
